POST-AUDITIONS

This is the fake head, we will apply makeup to make her look more dead, and dirty and we will make her hair more messy, you won't see a lot of her face though.

During the flash back we can see a young boy and 4 young girls which we have chosen and they are all very committed to their roles. We will also have to ensure we have a picture of the 4 girls when they are younger as there will be crosses on two of the girls faces, a circle on the next victim which is who we will be filming and another girl with nothing - yet. This will show the audience that the storyline is clearly going to be about the next victim.
Below is the picture we will be using, that the victim will find next to the dead body.

After our auditions we did make a decision on who we wanted to play our characters. Below are their names and pictures so that you can know who they are;

Amber Tweddle: Playing our main girl - Jess

Brett Denton: Playing the boyfriend - Darrell and he will also play the killer as we only see his hands in gloves.

This is the image of my group holding auditions for the roles within my film production. As you can see, we had to interview various people for the protaganist and the 2 victims and these people were good but weren't chosen. This location was used purely for size and equipment such as the mac computers to carry out effective auditions.

The filming is still in progress as we want to make it perfect and much more effective than our preliminary and therefore using the preliminary task as a guideline of what types of c,a,p,m's work well within our film opening. We have also had difficulties with the lighting of the ending of our filming and is quite complex to keep the continuity effectively. One way in which we have tried to solve this problem is to get various flashlights/torches in order to make it much brighter but the audience can still recognise it's nighttime.

The 2nd alleyway location we will consider. Here is a vlog!

This location would be used in our filming to indicate an eerie feeling and we would also let slip that this alleyway would be the next location in which the next victim would be murdered! we also thought it was good because at night it has a scary feeling to it and was also quite local to where the rest of our filming would be.

We think this would be a good, effective location to use also because it is mostly quiet at night-time when assessing it previous to our filming and also because it has some lighting which will make our filming much more easier. Also, the surroundings such as the trees, litter and people's clothes within the film will make the audience react to this particular scene as a negative location for the victim to be in. However, one little problem is that some parts of the alleyway has uneven ground and can be quite muddy.

This location can offer many ways to create a freaky effect to our film and to have a nerve-wracking effect to the audience e.g. the scene where the actor will discover the black bag containing the dead body in and therefore creates a scary scene for the majority of the viewers.

This is one vlog we have produced showing a possible location!

This is the location that we will use in our filming as it has less negatives regarding our filming e.g. the scary surroundings, the ground is much more even and benefits us when trying to produce difficult camera shots such as the birds-eye view shot, pan etc. and gives us much more assistance as the location is very local to where me and my partner live.

One disadvantage of this location is the lack of lighting in our location as the lamppost nearby is not working and therefore will create problems however we have found a solution to this by using our own lighting to proceed with this location. Also, this location is near our previous scenes and will make our filming much easier and much more effective.

Here is the video for our Preliminary!

We had a limited time to complete our preliminary task but we tried to construct more unique camera shots. We didn't use any diagetic sound as we didn't feel that music was relevant for our filming.

After getting feedback from our teachers, we were told of the mistakes that were made and how the filming wasn't very fluent.

The problems we had were most importantly the time scale we had to complete this as it was very limited however we managed to complete it. Another problem was trying to maintain the continuity towards the end of the clip as there were people coming in and out of the end location and therefore had to use effective, clever shots to maintain our continuity.

We intend to encounter these problems by having a good organised time scale, hard working and influential team members. Continuity can be effective by having better organised times for each stage for our filming.

We have finally found our logo/text and have created it fully...

Feedback on your views regarding our logo

We decided to go with the name 'skyfall productions' because the name represents action/thriller and also has a good vibe to the name. The reason that we choose skyfall as our production mane is also because it creates a cycle of different equilibriums and therefore we have a storyline of a person's life changing drastically within the production.

We came to this conclusion because the name of a famous film had inspired us to use it as not necessarily imitate the hook of the film but the literal meaning of the word will relate to our film sequence well.

Chosen Title For Our Production!!

After considering what title would be best suited to our film narrative we had decided on a decision with much help from everyone's feedback and our personal opinion, we finally decided that our title would be...

I STILL REMEMBER!!

We thought that this would tie in really well with our killer and his motive for the killings and why specifically on the stereotypical victims. This also relates really well with the sepia flashbacks of the constant bullying carried out on him in childhood. The conclusion of the title intertwining well with our film sequence is because the killer is seeking his revenge on the schoolgirls who bullied him when they were in school for being fat and ugly. Now, the girls are in university and he is mentally unstable and seeks revenge on them.

Audience Research

As you recall, our media production is going to be of a horror type genre. Our main target audience is around the 15-21 age range appealing to both genders. The sole reason for the precise age range relates to a variety of the conventions included within the film production. For example, the characters used for our production are within that age range and also the storyline throughout is based on teenage life and targets a couple of important social issues in contemporary society. The minimum age is 15 purely because of the actions and narratives that are included and therefore can only be suitable for 15+.

The typical hobbies of teenagers are watching horror films as it gives them thrills.

Filming still in progress and is so far so good!!!!

Whilst currently filming our AS Media Production, i have also been researching into the conventions and trailers of other students a2 media productions trailers.

here is a clip i believe is a good clip to learn from.

Take a look and feedback please!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ie0CKg2mF6w&feature=related&safe=active

This clip i believed was a great example of how a good trailer should be with it including a variety of conventions that tie in well with a stereotypical horror. However i feel that there are some brief changes that could be made to the trailer but still an effective example to refer to as a guide to help you when commencing with the a2 media studies coursework.

Preliminary

Currently just carrying out our editing now... Such a long Process!

Preliminary Video

Hi everyone, we have just completed our preliminary now, editing next then we will upload our completed preliminary!

Location: In School
Characters: Tyler & Dee
Time: 40 minutes

We had initially found some problems with our filming regarding the limited time scale this had to be completed in. However, we had used the time efficiently to complete the preliminary task. Also, there was a lot of noise nearby where we filmed and was a bit tricky to film when it was quiet.

Horror Movie Killer Research!

Hi people, me and tyler have carried out various research and have been trying to decide on what our murderer's clothing will be. Considering we don't actually see the killer himself, we only take notice to his hand and his murder weapon. A brief idea we thought of was:

  • black gloves - therefore suggesting he is not leaving fingerprints and it is a stereotypical part of mise-en-scene in these types of films and will blend in well with the pathetic fallacy.
Tell me what you think about this. Any suggestions would be welcome!!

HALLOWEEN

Halloween's murderer Michael Myers wears a mask over his face at all times. Although the police know his identity and they can easily catch him, he still feels comfortable wearing this mask as its what he wore when he was younger and murdered his family except his mother and baby sister. In a way, this is how Michael feels comfortable when he kills his victims.

His weapon is a large kitchen knife and this weapon is used throughout all of the murders he has committed. Sometimes he uses his hands for strangulation but is more popular for his big, sharp choice of weapon. Michael wants to indicate his pain of all the years he has been locked away by killing people so by using a weapon like this commits a much more suffering and a much more brutal attack.

SCREAM

Screams murderer's, there are various different people who are the killers in each of the 4 movies in which they all wear the same costume. In the film, the mask is typically known as 'Ghost face' and in all four films, this is what the killer would wear. Due to the film being centred around one girl being Sidney Prescott - the killer will kill almost everyone around her that mean something to her to build more tension and make her feel scared as when her turn will be. So the killer wears a full cloak to hide underneath clothing, a mask to hide their face & hair and black boots. They also hide their voice when calling by using a monitor that can change their voice completely.

Survey for Choosing Title of Film Opening

So Guys, we are wanting your feedback on what the title should be for our film opening, so if you are tracking my blog, then you will be familiar to what the conventions are included in my production planning. Here are the options...

1) You're Next

2) Anonymous

3) Unidentified

4) Undisclosed

5) I Still Remember

When you include your choice of the title, please state why you have chose this...
Thank you!

Whilst focusing more on the time consuming film opening, we still have to carry out a brief preliminary video that lass around half a minute. These is our planning for our preliminary task. Please feedback!

step 4

This is our step 4 mind map, this was our final step of planning. Please feedback!!

Media AS - Filming Plan & Ideas - Step 3

After Planning out our 3rd lot of ideas for our short film opening, we had our 3rd consecutive meeting with our teacher to discuss our new ideas and to receive more feedback.

After hearing some more areas in which we could improve in,we then worked on Step 4. Our teacher did however, notice that our step 3 was more looked at and more film-like.

The Improvements we made were:

  • Actual decision on everything - story is more clear, 'gaps have now been filled'
  • Pieced together the movie as a whole
  • Questionnaires on weapon best suited to use and the title of the film
  • Narrative hook is effective
After hearing even more positive feedback and now, a few questions on our idea, we went away to start Step 4 which would be our more detailed, planned out, and a more deeper explanation to our film.

We decided that to help us think of what to call our film and what weapon to use, we still looked closely at films like;

  • Amusement
  • Tormented
  • Scream
  • I know what you did last summer

Media AS - Filming Plan & Ideas - Step 2 Written

After planning out our second draft for our AS film production, we had our second one - on - one meeting with our teacher to discuss our new and improved ideas and to see what feedback we would recieve.

After hearing some more areas in which we could improve on, we went away and again discussed other ways in which we can improve our ideas and made a start on Step 3.

The Improvements we made were:

  • Rethinking over our storyline so we could be more clear on  how to make everything piece together
  • Show the reason behind his killing
  • Why the victims are linked
  • Why the  victims is in the alleyway

After jotting even more ideas & improvements together on a Step 3 mindmap, we were able to make our narrative much clearer.

We also decided on films to watch and take notes on;

  • Scream
  • Amusement
  • Tormented
  • Sorrority Row
These would also benefit us for ideas on the title design ideas and the effect it will create.

Media AS - Filming Plan & Ideas - Step 1 - Written

After planning out our first ideas for our opening of a short film, we had a one - on - one meeting with our teacher to discuss our ideas and to recieve feedback. After hearing the areas in which we can improve on, we then went away and discussed the improvements we needed to make in order to proceed to Step 2 of our planning.

The Improvements we made were:

  • Becoming more clear on the storyline
  • Deciding on an effective narrative hook
  • Discussing how we would go about our story by picking up on the loose parts
  • Become clearer to the audience
  • The various shot types we would need to use
  • What our victim would look like
  • Various possible ideas

After putting all our new ideas & improvements, together we came up with 'Step 2' with more complex, more planned ideas and had better thoughts.

We had 3 possible ideas on our storyline that we added to 'Step 2'. We also icluded where and what our establsihing shot was going to be and decided on a more specific time to carry out the filming procedure.

We also decided to carry out extra research on horror films to gain more knowledge/ expertees as horror is our chosen genre.

Hi guys, i will shortly publish my step 4 photo and feedback from our teacher!

Thursday, 27 September 2012

Is there any films that you feel can relate and can offer great ideas and conventions to our AS Media production? Please Feedback Guys!

Research!

Hi everyone, this is my film research that we found interesting and analysed the good conventions withing their films. If you have ever watched them please feedback on what you thought of the films and if there are appropriate research for our AS media production

Faces in the crowd is a film that i watched over various times to see if i would be able to relate any conventions of their film into our production. Faces in the crowd comes under as a thriller genre and we got an inspiration for a serial killing e.g. the start exemplifies what we are doing in our production. However the film doesn't resemble througout the opening sequence but does cover a brief scene.

Tormented is another film that i researched during my research and i hade found various conventions and brief storyline within the film that i feel will work well in our film. The bullying/revenge part of the film will be introduced.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is another film we researched for ideas and inspiration to see what sort of conventions we could pick up on to include in our film and also to gain a greater knowledge of our chosen genre and what conventions work well in relation to a standare horror/thriller film opening.

I also researched Drag me to Hell very briefly to understand the various concepts that they use to create the blonde girl as their victim and how they may relate to our film production. After watching the opening, i gained several ideas for our blonde victim and the conventions and characteristics needed in our film production.

These links are available for people to watch them and comment on what is positive and negative about getting inspiration from these films. If you feel that there are any other appropriate conventions that will be suitable and beneficial to our film then please feedback!!!

Film Research!

Faces in the Crowd - The film centers around a woman who developed prosopagnosia after being attacked by a serial killer. As she lives with her condition, one in which facial features change each time she loses sight of them, the killer closes in. We have taken a few things that will link in well with ours.

Scream - High school student Casey Becker receives a flirtatious phone call from an unknown person, asking her, "What's your favorite scary movie?" The situation quickly escalates out of control as the caller turns sadistic and threatens her life. He reveals that her boyfriend Steve is being held hostage. After failing to answer a question correctly about horror films, Steve is murdered. When Casey refuses to cooperate with the caller, she is attacked and murdered by a masked killer, and her body is hung from a tree. There are vartious techniques and camera shots we could possibly deploy in our production!
Hi guys, I would very much appreciate it if people could kindly send some feedback on whether the steps we have taken on creating our storyline for our AS Production!

You could comment on whether you like the storyline, what you like/dislike about the planning, And really just comment on the blog itself idfd you feel there should be more specific or frequent blog updates. Thanks Guys!

Tuesday, 25 September 2012

Just to let you know that our preliminary task will be finished recording tomorrow and from then our editing will proceed after so please feel free to give me feedback and advice on the positives and negatives of my work and blog. Thank You!

"Questionnaire on WHAT WEAPON WE CAN USE"

Hi everyone,

Me and Tyler have been talking about the killers weapon and what the killer could use on his victims.. If you look back on my mind maps you will get a rough idea on our storyline.. We want the weapon to be the same for every victim..

We would really appreciate your input and please let us know what you think our weapon should be..

Here's the options, leave your comments on the weapon!

Thanks!

HAMMER: Blunt object, pain, crushing skull.

GUN: Baring in mind, it will be loud. Personally this would be my last choice of a weapon.

KNIFE: Sharp pain, easy to hide. Brutal.

ROPE (strangulation): Slow, long-lasting pain. The fact you are witnessing the victim die slowly and painfully.

These are the notes and feedback given back by our teacher and we have included the improvements for our film and the notes indicate that the step process is improving as we are set less improvements each time which is showing our progress and creativity skills.

After completing our step 1 and step 2 in our planning & ideas for our AS media production we then moved on to creating a step 3 in the planning and as you can see the image of our step 3 mindmap is much more detailed and complex...

From our step 3, we have made several alterations and improvements to our storyline and using more in depth planning to have a very strong plan by the end of the planning procedure.
After showing our step 2 mind map to our teacher, we was then asked to make notes regarding the improvements that need to be made to our next planning. We also made a brief list of the film openings we had watched and researched to get inspiration from and learnt the different conventions.

Monday, 24 September 2012

After getting feedback from our teacher we then created step 2 in a mindmap layout therefore coming up with a more detailed and informative plan!

After a debate with my partner and our teacher, we finally decided to lean over to my (Dean's) idea, however we did create a similar but more effective and creative storyline that will eventually become a great opening sequence

This is Step 1! Please Feedback!

After a meeting with our teacher, he gave us feedback on what was positive as well as negative in order for us to improve our planning for our video production.

These are the notes on the improvements that we need to make it better.
Hi Guys, In a group discussion i have decided to work with Tyler purely because we want to create a film that comes under the horror/thriller genre and have briefly shared our ideas together. Updates and images of our planning will follow soon!
So i have produced my own individual planning for the opening sequence as part of our AS media part. This is the picture of my mindmap!

Getting started: Media AS Work, Production, Ideas & Mistakes!!!

So i have officially created my media blog. I will from now regularly update my blog with my as media ideas and work and also our task in hand and our video which as an opening sequence and i will welcome any feedback and for your opinions on our work ahead!

My initial idea of the creation on an opening sequence as an individual was to create a horror/thriller. My idea was to include a stereotypical protagonist and victim set-up but with a twist. My idea was to have previous murders not filmed but we film this particular scene when the audience will see a build-up to a particular breakthrough and therefore it ends and i thought this was a appropriate way to hook a particular audience in and try and figure out what happens next?
